Andrea Knox trainingAndrea has a background in ballet and extreme sports, and began learning aerial circus in 2002, training over the following years with a number of Wellington-based professionals.

From 2005 to 2011, Andrea worked extensively with Empress Stiltdance , performing and developing stilt dance and aerial dance works in New Zealand, Australia, and Asia. Independently of Empress, Andrea has also performed aerial works at corporate events, festivals, and in the 2007 and 2008 Wellington Circus Proms.

Andrea is a trustee, and one of the founders of the Wellington Circus Trust: a charitable organisation that works to extend the reach of circus in the region.

Recently, Andrea has become increasingly interested in new ideas in aerial dance, and is developing new apparatus and innovative uses of existing apparatus. Her current work includes developing a new apparatus: flyweight chains, and collaborative work with engineers to bring new aspects of
physics into aerial dance.

Andrea also runs a research and evaluation consultancy.
